Frequently asked questions

Why does it need admin access?
Apple doesn't expose the accelerometer through a public API. Maclaque uses a small daemon that runs as root to read the sensor. It's the same architecture used by similar apps. The daemon does nothing but read the sensor and pass data to the app.
Is the app safe? Signed by Apple?
Yes. Maclaque is signed with a Developer ID certificate and notarized by Apple. This means Apple has reviewed the app and approved it for distribution. Gatekeeper recognizes it as a trusted app.
Is my Mac compatible?
Maclaque works on all MacBooks with Apple Silicon chips (M1, M2, M3, M4 and Pro/Max/Ultra variants). Intel Macs are not compatible — they don't have the same sensor. Minimum macOS 13 (Ventura).
Why isn't it on the App Store?
The accelerometer isn't accessible from a sandboxed app (Apple restriction). Direct distribution is the only technical option. The app is signed and notarized by Apple — same level of security as App Store apps.
Is it safe for my Mac? No damage?
Yes. A reasonable slap won't damage your MacBook — the hinges and chassis are built to handle much worse. Obviously, don't hit it with a hammer. It's fun, not MMA.
Do you collect any data?
No. Zero. Maclaque is 100% local. No analytics, no crash reporter, no server connections (except for AI custom sound generation). GDPR compliant by design.
How does voice cloning work?
Import an MP3 of at least 30 seconds of the voice you want to clone (yours, a friend's, etc.). Maclaque uses AI to reproduce that voice, and you can then generate as many phrases as you want with it. Maclaque includes 3 clonable voices, Maclaque+ gives you 10.
